Comp Lit professors win prestigious Brown awards

Brown offers a number of awards and fellowships to deserving faculty to recognize their excellence in teaching and research.

The Comparative Literature Department is pleased to announce that two of our faculty members have been recognized by the University for their excellence in teaching and continued contributions to the Brown community.

NiedermaierProfessor Jeffrey Niedermaier, Mulberry Essence Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature and East Asian Studies, has been awarded the 2024 Henry Merritt Wriston Fellowship. The Wriston Fellowship is awarded each year to regular, untenured members of the faculty who have achieved a record of excellence in teaching and scholarship during their first years at Brown. Prof. Niedermaier was selected by a faculty committee from numerous applicants.  His innovative scholarly work accompanied by the scope of his accomplishments stood out to the committee.

 

 

MuhannaProfessor Elias Muhanna, Associate Professor of Comparative Literature and Associate Professor of History, has received the John Rowe Workman Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Humanities for 2024. The Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards recognize Brown faculty members for sustained and continued excellence in teaching. Prof. Muhanna was nominated by his peers and selected for his exemplary teaching achievement. In addition to his notable work in the classroom, Prof. Muhanna currently acts as Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Comparative Literature Department, mentoring undergrad concentrators as they navigate the program.
